Web Consultant/Contractor (Independent), Queens, NY — 2003 - Present
- Served as consultant and contractor in fields relating to web presence creation and management. Worked with clients to design identity, including logos, websites, and stylebooks.
- Assessed the practical needs of the client to determine the most cost-effective and efficient solutions. Advised clients on emerging trends in internet design, social networking, and a strong focus on editing content for internet consumption.
- Was responsible for company strategy, including content planning, marketing, currency exchange, and community management. Designed marketing strategies, which included managing and informing a large user community, creating sales materials, and determining prime locations for product exposure in a 3D virtual environment. Conducted market research and studied emerging user trends within the nascent environment of Second Life.
- Designed and scripted content for the Second Life environment. Responsible for user experience design on a wide range of products in an international, heterogenous consumer environment. Created user-friendly interfaces for products with large, varied feature sets.
- Worked with web-integration technologies, including a MySQL-based gaming statistics system (with website functionality), language translation tools, and a Facebook-style social networking site.

Ka Leo O Hawai`i is the daily online and print newspaper for the University of Hawai`i system, with a circulation of around 20,000 regular readers. This was a salaried staff position.
- Was solely responsible for the daily production of approximately 150 column inches (3750 - 5250 words).
- Wrote, under deadline, an average of 1500 words a day on a variety of topics including but not limited to university administration, local government politics, and humor. Summarized complex subjects in a digestible manner and utilized persuasive writing techniques.
- Was responsible for hiring, managing, and mentoring a staff of writers, advising on content, style, grammar, and syntax.
- Collaborating with the associate editor, I made layout decisions, adjusted content for online presentation, and selected/assigned content for daily publication.
